Good News!
Initial reviews for The Dominion and the Sugilite ~ Episode 6 are five stars!
If you don’t know what the hype is about, Sally Bend summarized the series better than I:
The Dominion and the Sugilite is a serialized erotic science-fantasy soap opera . . . set on a female-ruled planet where the power exchange is the foundation of a fantasy-themed society fueled by the magic of gems known as sugilite.
…Frazier provides an introduction to the world, its history, and its characters, while setting up the relationship dynamics and social/political interactions. There’s a lovely mix of science fiction and fantasy to the story that reminds me of 70s pulp novels, but with a more contemporary (and explicit) FLR/femdom theme.
Read her entire review on Goodreads… and don’t forget to “like” it!
Thank you to readers who have diligently posted reviews after reading my books. Reviews are an important tool to attract potential readers. If you’ve read my books but haven’t left a review, please take the time to do it now.
Much like in regular smedia, “likes” help promote books within Goodreads. While you’re leaving a review, take the time to “like” other reviews. Or, if you find yourself with a few extra minutes, head to my Goodreads page and have fun liking the reviews for all of my books!
Also, I’m nearly finished with the first draft of Episode 8… with Episodes 9 and 10 nearly plotted! Don’t worry, you can read ‘em all; I’ll make more. 😀

Here’s what you said after the last blog post.
sizeerrorprojection ~ Loved the blog post, Mistress! I’m glad you shared some of our silliness a la Circus Liquor. One minor thing… we were in Hermosa Beach, not Redondo. [oops, corrected!]
You have been very kind with your praise. Thank you. I can’t wait for the “SEP leaves the booth” segment… [I speak facts, sep. Thank YOU.]
You almost missed the plane because Claire had to pee? Kudos to her for her roadside solution! I never knew a car could be a makeshift porta-potty. Open air porta potty anyway. [haha… but I did my damnedest NOT to ACTUALLY say what the issue was, sep!]
L.K. Lynch ~ Congrats on the silver for Eli #2! [Thank you!]
rubbug ~ Thank you, Mistress BJ, always a pleasure to lend you an assist. [I’m grateful for you, rb!]
The explanation of how houses work in the Master Gear class and Master Gabriel interview was educational. I didn’t know about those and I mentally equated it to vampire covens, maybe with less biting. Oh, and for Master Gear to ask at the top of his forum about the need for American Sign Language was really cool. I’m glad there’s inclusion in such a space. [I wouldn’t count on less biting *grin* But yes, there is much community and inclusion]
Glad MP and sep were able to write about the collaring, I can see that it is a big deal and not to be taken lightly.
I’m glad you had a good time and were surrounded by really cool people. Every time I read one of these, I think about how cool it’d be for me to get there. Maybe one day I’ll get the courage to do so. Until then, I’m glad I get to read your reviews. [I hope that you do; then I’ll be surrounded by more really cool people :D]
toymax ~ Congratulations on Your IPPY silver medal, Mistress B.J. You and Jessie deserve it so much. I, too, was initially one of those sceptics. But I’m very thankful to You for convincing me to read it. It *IS* such a great story. And the silver medal looks fantastic on the printed book. [Aww, I will make sure Jessie sees this. Thank you so much, Max… and thanks for trusting me to read the series!]
It makes me happy to see that You had a great time at DomCon. You and Your team have become an integral part of it – not just simple participants. Thank You for giving us outsiders so many detailed impressions. It’s amazing how many different people You’ve met there and what they have experienced. [We do feel the community around us more and more. Everyone is welcome to newbs, so never say never!]
What a special and very personal birthday gift for Goddess Phoenix. She most definitely liked it. She looks very happy and of course very hot in front of Your booth. [She always looks hot… but I have to say, the book does look awesome in her hands *grin*]
cb-6000-lover ~ Your post about LA DomCon was chock full of news. Kudos on winning the award for your book. You have established yourself as a leader at these conventions, helping make the events more special. [You are very sweet, cb, thank you! When are you going to go to one?]
Mistress Mia ~ I was just taking a look through the blog and the article is great. Thank you so much for the shoutout for me and for Gear. As I was looking through I noticed that you have a video of Goddess Phoenix being pulled on the cart and I was trying to see if I might be able to get a copy of it because the young man on the left with the lock is actually my boy, and I know that he would love to see himself in a video. [I’m so glad you approve! Yes, and sent… and more on you and your boy during the Play Party review! I realize I inadvertently left Master Gabriel off the BDSM HOF announcement last time–kudos to him as well!]
otkfme ~ I have enjoyed reading about DomCon. [It’s why I do these!]
Thomas Antonson ~ Potato-potato. Let’s call the whole thing off. According to Webster, both pronunciations are correct. And, as this story from Minnesota Public Radio suggests, nobody cares. Personally, I think this whole thing has been a bunch of hot air — you know, the kind you get when you pour water over heated rocks. [haha, glad to know you’re not sweatin’ it, Thomas! *grin*]
B.J. Frazier’s reviews of DomCon become more detailed every year. After reading the most recent installment, I almost feel like I was there, without having to stuff my corpulence into an airplane seat. Having some of her booth buddies attend classes and report about what they saw is a great addition. And I always look forward to her interviews with attendees and luminaries of the FemDom world. [They’re also why I just might get to see you in NOLA for your first DomCon ever, Thomas! I’m so excited!]
Send me your comments, and I’ll put them in the next blog post!
DomCon L.A. 2024 Second Review
Here’s where you can find the previous review post:
I was busy in the booth a lot more during this DomCon, either talking to readers, signing books or interviewing fellow kinksters. I am grateful to Multiperv (MP) and sizeerrorprojection (sep) for their write-ups of some stellar classes. Let’s get to it!
Classes
BDSM Bloopers, Blunders, and Disasters by Jay Wiseman
Sep’s Perspective
Jay started in the BDSM scene in 1975 after being involved in S&M since 1970. The term BDSM didn’t even exist when he started; it was just S&M. He has started two BDSM clubs and played in over 90 cities. Jay started out as an EMT, handling emergency calls. He is now a court qualified expert witness in four states for cases involving BDSM. His combination of experience isn’t common and his services are needed. Jay has also authored several books including: BDSM 101, Erotic Bondage Handbook, Tricks to Please a Woman, Tricks to Please a Man.
MP did excellent job of relaying the story Jay told about a newbie sub and leaving a Lion Binder Clamp on her labia. [See the first DomCon Review Post] Lesson learned. Count the clamps! Jay made a strong point that one should never assume what a reasonable level of pain is for anyone else. Check in regularly with the bottom to see how they are handling the pain level. Mistress B.J. hammers this point home all the time, especially in Mistress Managed.
An audience member talked about hooked rope knives. He got one and tested it on a long length of rope, cutting it over and over, getting used to how it worked. It worked well every time. However, when he tried to use it in a session, it DIDN’T CUT THE ROPE. He realized he had dulled the knife with all his practice.
Jay recommended using EMT shears for rope sessions. The EMT shears are safety shears with dulled tips so you won’t accidentally cut someone, and they have a SERRATED JAW on the bottom edge of the shears. My safety shears don’t have the serrated jaw to expedite the cutting. Thanks to this class, I am going to get a pair. Immediately.
Continuing with rope, Jay mentioned that a top should always be aware of the potential effect movement can have during a scene. He described a scenario where candles were used for lighting a suspension scene. When the sub shifted in the harness, her hair crossed the path of the flame. Everyone was okay, but the scene ended immediately. Be careful. Be aware. Anticipate potential disasters. Have tools on hand to help with unanticipated disasters.
Jay continued to relay stories without happy endings. A couple wanted to have sex while they were both in high intensity bondage. The house caught fire after they were bound, and they both died.
Another tale was about vaginal fisting. The top and bottom had each consumed a 12-pack of beer. The bottom began to vaginally bleed when the top passed out from being drunk. There was a similar story about kicking of the vaginal area post surgery. Even though there was lots of bleeding, it was luckily only some minor damage to her urethra.
Jay hammered the point home to always ask about surgeries and current medical conditions. I am not referring to being drunk as a medical condition, however. That is a different kind of handicap. Stay aware. BDSM can be dangerous. A fingernail can cause a slight incision, which could become infected.
Switching gears, Jay was flying out to testify in a breath play death case. He was doing research on the plane, and the passenger next to him completely freaked out. Jay laughed and said the guy probably thought he was a serial killer or something.
The final tale was the Defrost Your Chicken one that MP discussed before. The warning of note is to make sure you’re playing with someone you know is level-headed in a crisis. Watch them play with others before engaging with them. Ask for references from other kinksters who’ve played with them, or from the top themselves.
This was a great class, great community, great participation.
Thanks, sep, for the added detail, and for the book shoutout 😀
Sex and The Corset by Lady Shadow
Sep’s Perspective
Lady Shadow is a corset wearer 24/7/365 and has been since the ‘90s. Her waist is impossibly small, accentuating her curves. She is a teacher of waist training. A waist trainer goes for the look as opposed to a tight lacer, who wants more of a fashion statement. A tight lacer may wear the corset for long periods but not 24/7/365. A third type of corset wearer craves the restriction, compression, and bondage of the corset. The latter applies to me; thus my interest in the class.
Lady Shadow emphasized that corsets are not to be trifled with; they are a serious piece of clothing, and one that requires understanding. The material shouldn’t stretch nor should it be tightly spun or leather. She recommends steel-boned corsets, and warned against other types of boning, especially plastic, as you could end up with bruised ribs.
One also needs to be careful of poor quality metal boning. Pot metal is not rigid enough for waist training and can also cause physical harm. A magnet can be used to detect the quality of the steel.

She does not recommend an overbust corset, like I have, for waist training. The overbust corset can mess with your rib cage, and she emphasized that “YOU WILL LOSE.” Her emphatic statement stays with me as I temper how tight I want my corset. I do like the tightness but am against permanent damage.
All corsets must be seasoned before lacing them tightly. Seasoning is wearing the corset snugly and training it to your body. Once the corset knows you, you can tighten its grip. Lady Shadow taught us that you should never tighten your corset so tightly that you can’t bend over.
She pointed out the stiff bottom of some corsets that extend over the pelvis (like mine) can cut off your circulation, especially for men, when sitting. It can also do the same thing under the armpits if it hikes when you sit. This happens more with overbust corsets. The last point she made was that, in a corset, you can bend from your hips, but not from your belly button.
If you have sex while wearing a corset, she emphasized the need to pay attention to how tight you’re laced up. You need to breathe as you orgasm or you will pass out. And you should NEVER have sex in a brand new corset that isn’t seasoned.
Penetration should also be taken into account when tightening your corset because it won’t let anything expand. Leave a little space for your partner’s size upon entry. Lady Shadow told us about a couple that got stuck together during sex because they forgot to leave enough space.
Before sex, you should always discuss a strategy to exit the corset with your partner. Two good tips were: (1) use a zipper corset, good quality ones with steel boning are available today, unlike in the past; and (2) cut the laces… hmmm maybe the EMT shear for rope bondage should be close by for having sex in a corset, too.
The kind of corset to consider for waist training is expensive, and you should be careful not to “fuck it up” with bodily fluids during sex. Always have something available to soak up cum or urine. You might end up peeing to release pressure when your partner enters you.
If you’re sitting while having sex, your corset will tighten. Be aware. Think ahead. Never hold your partner by the corset while having sex, especially by the laces. You could inadvertently tighten the corset further or yank it into a position that causes your partner injury.
Resting your hands on the outside of the corset is fine. Don’t eat right before having sex in your corset… when you expand, the corset DOES NOT. Lady Shadow mentioned that heartburn medication might be a good idea before having sex in your corset if you have acid reflux or something similar.
A very tall female audience member asked about whether over-the-shoulder straps on the corset would help with her spine curvature.
Some people wear corsets to help with their posture or to minimize pain from spine curvatures. Lady Shadow said the straps don’t help that much, and the downside is worse. They tend to pull the corset upwards into your rib cage for underbust and armpits for overbust.
This class put me in the mindset, as so many classes do for a newbie like me, to be careful and not let my excitement get the best of me. Lady Shadow was a fun, boisterous, emphatic presenter, and I appreciated her experience and expertise. Awesome class!
Thanks, sep! Claire and I will have to be careful not to listen to you in the future to tie you too tightly in your sexy corset! I love how you assimilated Jay’s class with this one.
Practical Protocols, Power Exchange, and D/s for the Rest of Us by MX Bliss & Awakening Violet
MP’s Perspective
I arrived a few minutes late and was pleasantly surprised to see the room nearly full. The class was taught by a 20-something lesbian, D/s couple who had mutual affection, which made them fun and cute to learn from.
Their first point was to be mindful about when and where you execute protocols. Some may be perfectly fine to do when alone or among kinksters, or even just other adults, but they should not be done around children. Be mindful of your surroundings.
They also talked about levels of protocol. For example, if the protocol is the sub will always be lower than the dom, someone may need to wear footwear that ensures that. Heels if the dom(me) isn’t taller than the sub, or perhaps the sub wears flats.
A medium level of the protocol might be that the sub, when the surroundings are appropriate, kneels when around the dom(me).
A higher level might be if the dom(me) is squatting or sitting, the sub needs to lie down on his belly or back to effectuate the protocol.
As is typical in the community, the recommendation is to start small, with just a couple and add more once the early ones are well established.
They also recommend that, when possible, pair a protocol with something that’s already done, like going to sleep or waking up. One example was to set a protocol where the sub was not allowed to urinate in the morning until she had taken her morning meds. A great and simple way which, once established, ensures meds are taken and that she takes care of herself.
Sometimes protocols need to be adjusted. For example, the sub was to take a selfie during her twice-a-week visits to the gym. That wasn’t working because the sub did not like pictures of herself. The Mistress then made it a daily requirement.
Protocols should be negotiated to ensure each party gets what he wants or needs, not just the dom or sub. Additionally, protocols should be revisited periodically to make sure they are still useful and not redundant or unnecessary.
A joke was made in reference to polyamory that Google Calendar becomes the UberDom of the group.
They also mentioned the Obedience app as an easy and modern way of tracking compliance, completion or documentation of some protocols. It also has ways to earn points toward rewards or demerits for poor performance.
Clothing can be symbols of protocols, like day collars or specific clothing or matching outfits – either between the dominant and the sub or just subs in the case of multiple partners.
Daily connection can be another way to have common protocols, like good-morning or good-night routines, sending memes, or using Uppercase/lower case D/s protocol in written communication, etc.
Service – another common form of protocol. It could be coffee or tea service, cigar service, bootblacking, etc. The dominant presenter offered her opinion that laundry service was particularly hot… probably because she didn’t have to do it.
They also discussed aftercare protocol, most likely performed by the dominant. A vanilla friend of theirs asked about “beforecare”, and everyone seemed to agree that should be a common term.
In conclusion, they advised that protocols work best when the parties are passionate about them. As a friend of theirs put it, “If I didn’t treat [the protocol] with intention, purpose, meaning, etc., it would just be a fucking chore.”
Thanks, MP! It seems like a fun class… I’d only add that aftercare of dom(me)s is often overlooked but could very well fit into a protocol.
Dragon Back Tie Your Bottom by Domina Ballerina Goddess
Sep’s Perspective
This was a rope class. And we’re not talking about tying your butt. I jumped at the opportunity to learn a new tie from one of the DomCon board members. Domina has been tying with rope for 10 years. She started as a top and was a rope bottom for three years. She has taught on Shibari Study, an online rope course resource, and has a rope dojo of her own.
Similar to what had come up in BDSM Blunders, Bloopers, and Disasters, Domina recommends only using your safety shears twice. Then throw them away. She made sure everyone in the class had safety shears before we started. She taught us the largest nerve in the body, the sciatic nerve, that goes from the base of the spine down the back of the leg. She told us to review artery and nerve locations in the body so we know which places to avoid placing tight ropes. She also mentioned to be careful of the nerves behind the knee.
In addition, she advised to avoid rope on bones; the hip bones especially. Domina is hearing challenged and uses microphones and a speech recognition phone app in order to communicate. She frequently asked questions that people answered to which she would grin, “I CAN’T HEAR YOU”.
She set us up and we fell for it several times. She showed us a few signs so we could say we understood. We learned some ASL and how to tie, and it was great fun.
In addition to safety shears, her rope bag includes: hemorrhoid cream, nausea tabs, Pepto Bismol, hydrocortisone cream, and a marlin spike for loosening knots. She is prepared for any potential problem the bottom might experience.
Domina was really pissed off at her sub, telling us he had been a very bad boy and was not allowed to speak. ‘Nuff said. She used him for the demonstration BEFORE we started tying. This is a common teaching method, and it’s best not to start your ties during the watch period. You will be called out.
The dragon back tie starts with two reverse wraps at the waist which are tied off with a half-hitch. Then the line is pulled straight down the thigh and wrapped twice around the base of the thigh, three inches above the knee, while holding the vertical line in place; thus trapping the vertical line. Next, work your way up the thigh using two diagonal wraps to lock the bottom in place followed by two to three wraps around the vertical line, then two more diagonal wraps, followed by two to three wraps around the vertical line, followed by two more diagonal wraps, etc., until you reach the waist lines, and tie it off. You can repeat for the other leg which several people did.
The class was packed and it was hard to see, but we all helped each other. I am reminded again and again as I go to classes and events at DomCon that this is such a great community. This was a pretty quick and easy lesson, and a chance to interact with other class members in a fun environment. Loved it! I am partial to rope and have attended in-person rope classes a few hours from home.
Thanks, sep! I wish we could’ve seen a dragon back tie on you after class 🙂
Improv Play for Kinky People ~ by Mistress Diamond Blu
MP’s Perspective
Mistress Diamond Blu has 10 years of experience doing improvisation, was a comedienne, and has several years’ experience as a prodomme.
She began with the background of improvisation. It was based on a model developed by a female sociologist in the early 1900s to help control and teach immigrant children from several countries who did not share a common language.
Mistress Blu said that improv is most useful and fun when you can relax and open your ‘inner child’, use your imagination, and not judge yourself or others. She added that judging leads to anxiety, self-doubt, locking up, and other things not conducive to improvisation.
She also wrote some things to show how “Improv Think” can reframe common themes that can hold us back from creative thinking:
Mistakes = Discoveries
Knowledge = Power
Safe space = Vulnerability
Logic = Creativity
Gut Feeling = Instinct
Connection = Solidarity
A creative example was to treat a vibrating phone as a magic wand.
Mistress Blu also likened Improv to a form of meditation because it involves mindfulness, awareness, the senses, and childlike wonder and imagination.
She also provided some Do’s and Don’ts for successful improv, kinky or otherwise:
Do:
– Say yes and agree. It help things move forward rather than stopping short.
– Make statements. Don’t ask questions all the time.
– There are no mistakes! Embrace this and become liberated!
– Set up a safe environment to play.
– Always listen
Don’t:
– be a judgy asshole
– be a douchey dom
– be a starfish sub (one who just lays there and receives, giving little energy back)
After the concepts, Mistress Blu guided us through interactive games; not just between us and her but the members of the audience. One was ‘pass the clap’ (not that kind, pervert) where one person would look at someone and once that person looked back, clap at them. The second person then turned to someone else and did the same, passing the ‘clap’ around the room.
She later created a Venn diagram and we came up with some things that overlap with good improv and good BDSM. Some examples: Consent, Trust, Intimacy, Basis for the scene, Play, Risk, Curiosity, Empathy, Casting
We then played kinky Improv Games:
1. Kinky Magic Ball. One person takes a real object and treats it as one sort of kink toy or tool, then hands it to the next person who uses it as another kink toy or tool. For example, one person may use a piece of rope, then the next person could wield it like a flogger, and the next person could use it like a knife, etc.
2. Props. Some kink items are laid out and then participants select one and do something with or around it.
3. One Word at a Time. Two or more players face each other and each says a word, going back and forth (or around the circle for more than two), to tell a story.
4. These are 5 things: A (kink) topic is brought up and the player has to say 5 words related to that topic or theme while others are encouraging. Then it moves to the next player or theme. It seems simple but it can be easy to lock up. This is a good game for establishing trust, being encouraging rather than judgmental, and getting out of your head.
To end the class, Mistress Blu told a great story about one of her early sessions as a prodomme where a client wanted to do an exorcism. She put on a nun costume and interviewed him. He answered fine, but occasionally adopted a demonic voice and insulted her. She confronted him, and he asked for help to rid him of the evil spirit. She then used bondage, impact play and ‘holy water’ that made him writhe and curse more.
Per his prearranged request, she pegged him to completion, stating his spewing semen represented the spirit leaving his body, and he collapsed gratefully, thankful for his salvation.
The audience roared and clapped. It sounded like a very fun, kinky, and satisfying improv’d scene from a simple premise.
What will yours be?
Thanks, MP. I LOVE improv, and this sounds like a fun class!
Interview with Madam Serpent and Solar
I walked by Solar’s booth in the vending area and discovered she represented a dungeon. I cut off the explanations in favor of an interview… not knowing she was affiliated with Madam Serpent.
I met Madam Serpent last year–in fact, I was the first person to call her Madam Serpent! We talked about writing, she bought a book, and we shared a few emails.
There was a warm and fuzzy quality about the pair, despite them talking about BDSM. I will admit, however, that the interview started on a rather somber note. Solar and Madam Serpent trusted me with their histories into kink and why… and also to *not* print them.
I can tell you that Solar comes from a dark past and found the light in BDSM; a light which she happily shares with others. It is through the BDSM community that she discovered herself and realized she was strong.
Madam Serpent discovered the kink scene on FetLife, where she thought “mistress” was someone you had an affair with! She met a “mistress”, who made her an offer, which was vastly different than what she imagined. However, she discovered that it was perfect for her.
Things happen for a reason.
The pair have been in a relationship for five years, and in a partnership for four. Their kinks matched and, in October of ‘22, they started their joint project called Serenity Studios in Riverside.
Hearing them talk about their dungeon was incredible, because it’s filled with *community*. You’ve heard me, sep, and MP talk about the sense of community at DomCon; now I’m going to tell you about it in practice.
Solar admits that she always felt out of place; that she was more awkward than social. So it was important to her that their dungeon was more about community than a “beat your sub and go home” mentality.
Everyone knows each other. But don’t let that intimidate you from walking in off the street. Because they match newbs. Listen to how in-depth they go about it. Solar takes every newb on tour and then matches that person with someone to make him feel welcome.
Too good to be true? Perhaps, because many of their members balked at this idea… until they realized the importance behind it. Instead of admitting people without knowing anything about them, Solar and Madam Serpent have created a teaching space, which cultivates safety along with community.
After seeing the results, all of their members are on board, and many volunteer to mentor newbs.
Because of the sense of association, it makes special events at Serenity so much more fun. Open Wednesday to Sunday, they do multiple events throughout the month. Keeping things fresh, they never duplicate the same themes within a month.
Some examples of their special events are: femdom, littles, critters, newbies. Others deal with performance-based things, like exhibitionism. Still others are themed, like Halloween, Alice in bondage.
They even use backdrops at some of the events for photo shoots. Mindful of everyone’s privacy, though, the backdrops are set off in a corner and people use their own phones. Only the Dungeon Master is allowed to take photographs. Also, it’s heavily warned that this event has a backdrop and photo session, so stay away from that area if you don’t wish to be photographed.
They have a stage room and a secondary room, about a third of the size, named Hell. It’s so named because it’s the only room that has a heater. They opened in October of 2022, followed closely by winter, in which the stage room was about 60 degrees, whereas Hell was 85.
Madam Serpent said she carried out the decorations with the name. There’s limestone and brimstone, and a castle. And all the furniture is red.
Her favorite phrase is, “I’m not a hobbyist, I’m a lifestylist.” She says it’s amazing to watch the lifestyle evolve over the past 14 years. And she’s quick to add that you have to take accountability for your actions. Madam Serpent fully embodies this notion in her life and in Serenity Studios.
Solar laughed when Madam Serpent told her to share her catch phrase: “If you have a problem with me; call me. If you don’t have my number, you don’t have a problem with me.”
Due to political reasons, Serenity Studios can only advertise on FetLife. I have permission to share the pictures from their dungeon in this interview, and I encourage you to learn more about the community behind the business at serenity_studios on FetLife.
They have a review page set up for people who were there; new or old. In addition, they post ads for their special events and keep people informed of new additions to the space.
Madam Serpent and Solar have formed a community that cares, teaches and shares. Without judgment. Regardless of experience.
Their pasts may be jaded and jagged but, together, they are a force of positivity for others.
To Madam Serpent and Solar: Thank you so much for sharing stories and for creating a wonderful environment for kinksters! I look forward to hearing about your progress at DomCon 2025.

Interview with Madam Serpent and Solar
